ACE at Roxbury Open Studios 2013!

For the first time, ACE is participating in Roxbury Open Studios to celebrate and share the creativity in our work. This annual event is an opportunity to meet Roxbury artists and we are excited to be a part of the fun!

We invite you to join us at our newest Grow or Die garden in Dudley Square for an outdoor exhibition of our work, in partnership with Madison Park CDC.

Beautiful posters created by members, volunteers and staff for our campaigns will be on display, and we'll have several exciting community art projects for you to browse and enjoy.

PROJECTS:

  • EJ Mural project: Spray paint your ideas for environmental justice on our community mural. What does it look like when everyone has access to living wage jobs, green spaces, clean air, healthy food and first-class public transportation? How do we transition from a fossil-fuel economy to a sustainable future? What are the best ways to grow community power?
  • Share your public transit stories in our T Riders Union (TRU) video booth. What are your MBTA rants and raves? How would affordable fares and accessible, reliable and efficient service impact you? Note: Video booth only available on Saturday, October 5.
  • Make your own pin-on buttons. Choose from an assortment of designs or create a personalized one. If you would like to bring your own design, please print on regular weight paper and make sure the diameter is no more than 2.25 inches.
  • Decorate the garden with your vision of green and sustainable communities. With redevelopment inundating Dudley Square and more projects on the horizon, how do we prevent gentrification and displacement and keep our neighborhood strong? See what other guests have drawn and written and add your ideas to the conversation.
  • See photography and posters from our campaigns and actions and take your favorite ones home.

    Featured photographer: Rafael Feliciano Cumbas

"I am a photographer from the neighborhood of Mission Hill in Boston. I worked many years as a youth community organizer to address issues of youth violence and lack of youth jobs. I use my organizing experience to influence my photography. I participate in marches and rallies to express solidarity, and to photograph the points of view of the organizers."

  • Enjoy a beautiful community space growing healthy, affordable food for resident gardeners. We will have music, great company and may even hold Toxic Tours of Dudley Square if enough people are interested.

Help build a vision for environmental justice:

    • What makes a community healthy?
      Sustainable?
      Green?
      Affordable?
      Vibrant?
      Safe?
      Accessible?
      Resilient?
