The Boston Urban Forest Coalition has launched the Grow Boston Greener initiative to increase tree canopy in the City to 35 percent by the year 2020. As part of the initiative, residents and businesses can qualify to get a free tree. All city trees, whether they are on public or private property, provide community benefits including cooler summer temperatures, reduced winter heating, cleaner air and beautiful streetscapes.
