The Environmental Leadership Program's New England Regional Network presents
Nature for All: Urban Youth and their Access to the Outdoors
A discussion about youth and their relationship to the outdoors, the challenges lower-income communities face and how it all ties into the environmental movement.
May 31, 2008
10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
at the Mill Building,
60 Island Street, Lawrence, MA
Cost: $10 (lunch included)
This issue forum, hosted by the Environmental Leadership Program, will examine today's urban youth and their relationship with the environment with a particular focus on the challenges affecting lower-income communities. Some of the issues to be addressed: health of youth and children affected by concentrated poverty, racial/ethnic segregation, and inequitable distribution of health and social services, communities defining environment, and physical and mental health impacts.
After gaining an understanding of issues affecting access to the outdoors, participants will hear the stories of community members in an open forum that will lead to a discussion on ways to address the issues at a local level. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in discussion with invited speakers.
