This event is generously co-sponsored by Mel King, Ty DePass and Horace Small. The goal is to raise $5,000 of the $20,000 he needs for legal defense and campaign expenses through the summer.

Tomás Aguilar, founding member of Colectivo Flatlander, works with the collective supporting the immigrant rights and social justice movement in Texas and the South. Tomás also worked at the Workers Defense Project supporting Gulf Coast organizations working with immigrant day laborers. He recently researched and co-wrote for UCLA-LOSH and NDLON a report titled Risk Amid Recovery: Occupational Health and Safety of Latino Workers in the Aftermath of Gulf Coast Hurricanes.

SEIU 615 would like to invite you to join us as we screen the Oscar nominated documentary Trouble the Water here in the assembly hall at our local. This is part of SEIU 615’s annual commemoration of the assignation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and we wanted to share with you, our community allies, the chance to watch this amazing film together. Trouble the Water follows aspiring rap artist Kimberly Rivers Roberts and her husband just before and during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans through their home videos and other archival footage as well as following them upon their return. It is a powerful that takes you inside Hurricane Katrina in a way never before seen on screen. It's a redemptive tale of two self-described street hustlers who become heroes.
