The Union of Minority Neighborhoods, NAACP Boston Branch, OISTE and other organizations and community leaders will be hosting a Black/Brown community leadership discussion and briefing on the potential effects that a 'yes' vote on the initiative would have.

Come out to see some of the past and present environmental injustices in our community of Dudley Square while learning about ACE's work. The tour is done in two parts, one inside ACE's office and one outside in the neighborhood.

On September 20, 2008, the Fredrick Douglas Peace Garden, located in Boston’s historic Lower Roxbury neighborhood will host its second 2008 summer event. The day will feature live musical performances with jazz musicians from Tuffus Zimbabwe Funk. We will honor the Boston Architectural College’s work on our unique seating and stage that they have built followed by the showing of a movie. Along with great music, we will offer BBQ, drinks, a tour of the local gardens and an update about the various activities and projects we are working on such as the community center proposal. All performances are free of charge.

The T Riders' Oversight Committee is a body set up by the MBTA to advise the MBTA Board of Directors on issues that riders feel are important. The T Riders Union does send a representative to these meetings, but unaffiliated individual riders are welcome as well. There is time built into the schedule for public comment at both the beginning and end of the meeting.

From 4:00 - 4:30 p.m. there will be a Steering Committee meeting, and at 4:30 p.m. Nancy Farias will present "Implementation of the Green Communities Act", an analysis of the Green Communities Act, its funding mechanisms, and how the Commonwealth will implement the various provisions.

The City of Boston, with a number of co-sponsors, is presenting a free event with information on home weatherization, financial planning and assistance programs, healthy food preparation, and much more.

ACE is in the process of reviewing the past five years and determining its vision for the next steps towards environmental justice. The process started with a retreat in late June and will culminate at the Annual Meeting in November. This is the second of three retreats in preparation for the Annual Meeting.

ACE member and volunteer Max Margolis will be giving a talk on Carbon Trading and whether this is an effective way to combat climate change. Take this chance to learn about 'cap and trading' systems as they are being examined and adopted around the U.S.

Bring your issues with our public transit system to the ones who run it! Every month, TRU members attend the MBTA Board of Director's Meeting and express the opinions and feelings of our members on how the T can provide first class service to all our communities.

The NIH Blue Ribbon Panel was established to provide independent and scientifically based advice to the NIH Director on risk assessment studies to be performed for the Boston University Medical Center (BUMC) National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL), as well as to advise on principles to enhance local community relations and communications regarding the NEIDL. In fulfillment of the latter charge, the Blue Ribbon Panel is in the process of developing a series of principles for fostering community engagement in the planning and oversight of all Regional Biocontainment Laboratories and National Biocontainment Laboratories funded by NIH, including the NEIDL. The purpose of the meeting is to seek community input on these draft principles as they are being developed.

Wednesday, October 15 is the last day to register to vote in the November 4 general elections. Make your voice heard by exercising your democratic right! You can register to vote by obtaining and filling out a form available both from ACE's office and your local city hall. Make sure you postmark the form by October 15 or hand deliver it to your local government office.

The 4th National Conference on Coastal and Estuarine Habitat Restoration is the only national conference focused on the goals and practices of coastal and estuarine habitat restoration. The five-day, climate-neutral Conference will explore the state-of-the-art in all aspects and scales of restoration, and will be comprised of field sessions, plenary sessions, expert presentations, special evening events, workshops, a poster hall, and a Restoration EXPO. Keynote Speeches will be from Dr. Nick Spitzer, Michael Grunwald, and Dr. Eric Higgs.

Whose Boston? is a coalition of Boston area groups who examine the planning and development processes and seek to improve upon them by making them more democratic and accountable to the city's residents.
