Today’s Jammin' for Justice Environmental Justice Award honoree is the Boston Grants Initiative.
The Boston Grants Initiative (BGI), administered by The New England Grassroots Environment Fund, provides grants to groups working on environmental justice, environmental health, green space and other projects in the greater metro neighborhoods of Boston, Chelsea, Somerville, and Cambridge. BGI interprets the word "environment" broadly and supports a wide range of activities focused on making our environment better, healthier and more sustainable.
Urban Grants are intended to address the needs of urban groups that are too small to receive larger foundation funding. They emphasize the importance of community-based organizing. Most projects come from small and emerging neighborhood groups, and some are part of larger organizations where the initiative would not proceed without additional, project-specific funding. Grants range from $500 to $10,000.
The Boston Grants Initiative provides a unique support system for small, volunteer-based groups in the Boston area. They are also highly collaborative and have worked with fellow award recipient United Neighbors of Lower Roxbury, among others. Thank you for all your great work!
