Is it just me? I don't remember reading anything about an Urban Ring BUS line until I saw it on the front page of the METRO a few weeks ago. Every other time I've heard about the "urban ring" proposals, going back to the 80's, they were described as subway i.e. underground extensions of the MBTA.
I'm really angry about this. The last thing we need is another fake subway line like the "Silver Line". Look at an MBTA subway map: they don't say anything about the "Silver Line" being a bus line. They think we're idiots. But more to the point, we do NOT need buses instead of underground trains! Buses are smaller, less pleasant and more polluting than trains. We need surface areas of the city for housing, parks, community centers and schools... not new bus lanes. And we don't need more buses adding to traffic when we could have underground trains instead.
They never replaced the Orange Line. They never replaced the Arborway line. Remember the A line? They are afraid to put a shovel in the ground unless it's for more cars and buses.
We need an elected MBTA board and a movement that will force full State and Federal funding of the MBTA!
Anyone with any info. on how the "Urban Ring" idea got changed suddenly from subway lines to bus lines; please drop me a note.
