ACE in Copenhagen!

December 15, 2009

We're excited to report that ACE Director Kalila Barnett is currently in Copenhagen, Denmark as part of a delegation sent by Movement Generation of U.S.-based community organizers working on climate justice. This trip is timed to coincide with the 15th Conference of Parties (COP 15) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) where most nations are joining to discuss global climate policy to replace the expiring Kyoto Protocol.

Our delegates are looking to connect U.S. grassroots campaigns to global movements that are also working on the intersections of ecological sustainability and social justice. The delegation hopes to collaborate with organizers from the Global South to address climate change and help break open the view of the U.S. as a monolithic "rich country."

We are working closely with groups like Right to the City, Grassroots Global Justice, the Indigenous Environmental Network and the Environmental Justice and Climate Change Initiative to create a vision for climate justice both here and internationally. See Kalila's video from Copenhagen above, real-time convention updates on our Facebook page and more videos and blogs from fellow delegates on the Movement Generation blog.

12/17/2009 Update: See our delegation's press release asking for real solutions to climate change.
